The thinking that started with the "Create Moments" now rests as my holidays in USA. DO let me know what all you feel about all these shows. I share views with so many other students of the subject that - these new thinking ways will prove to be most cost effective rediscovery of timeless values for helping us for a fulfilled life. I see lot of coincidence for me in getting the most complex turmoil resulting from the rigid thinking ways - the market meltdown. I feel confident that such thinking ways alone can bring newer comforts and satsifaction in human life. Wish you all the best.

My US stay was absorbing. So much of travel - more than India to US and back - it was all very good experience. My son Salil and Kavita had p[lanned it all in adavance. Reading and spending time on those themes was further enjoying activity. Since there is phone calls and visitors I could spend time I felt enjoyable and that is the reason I may nor be in a position to spend such time back home.

Before going further it is necessary to have a look into the total numbers about the US economy.

US $ 700b bailout (now estimated) is about 25% of annual revenue and about 4.5% of US GDP
CONSUMER PRICE INDEX: AUGUST 2008
August level of 219.086 (1982-84=100) was 5.4 percent higher than in August 2007.
If it is coming out of the budget, at what cost?
Health and Human Services ?
Defense?
Education?
Homeland security?
Agriculture?
Energy?
Veterans Affairs ?
National Science Foundation?
NASA?
Else from where it will come?
More budget deficit ( inflation )?
Yes, some are free to decide fate of those who are unable to decide, but suffer.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson has requested sweeping new powers for the Treasury Department as he seeks $700 billion in government funds to purchase troubled financial assets from firms facing a lack of liquidity or investor confidence.
..he hopes to see the U.S. economy through the crippling credit crisis this way.
..he has asked that there be no judicial oversight to the plan and that the Treasury Department have sole discretion over which assets should be purchased.
Can Secretary Paulson or all other president’s men achieve anything by reacting on symptoms?” “We have asked congress to do something huge in short time …” White House
Why when the situation is equally bad in other areas?
Around 2% annualized GDP growth
Negative saving rate
Inflation National debt closing in to GDP
High transaction costs
Reducing disposable incomes
Growing unemployment
Economic indicators
These indicators command more serious attention in so many areas for improvements in these.

Feel good or populist solutions will just borrow some time…
As seen above, so many things need real correction.

Bailout as initiated will just help credit system to survive to keep markets pulsating and keeping problems in place. With most of current income discounted for living the way most people live.. by discounting the future
Wiser will find their savings and investments their values reducing …
The real purchasing power is scarce to keep markets stable – then from where growth will come?
….how many can buy durables, cars and houses if credit cards /loans are not available?
… how many people will come forward to buy houses?
The answer is obvious – very few.
Then how the operating manufacturing companies / shoppers will remain profitable?.

Criticizing is simple, but it is too late now!
Clarity and sense of direction is the need of the time for lasting solution.
A good thought model is desperately needed. It MUST evolve from the diagnosis and prognosis – with focus on causes and cause of causes.

Lets build up the model – at least we can correct what we can.. to help and contribute….
Inviting sincere, honest and purposeful thoughts from stake holders to build a solution model is a process – a simulation with real life data and indicators.
Fortunately the American spirit has proven itself time and again by achieving good results out of impossible conditions. The current situation is too precious to be an exception.
Does not matter how others defines the urgency - such solutions will take time to get built up.

Time of suffering is the real cost for something wrong of this magnitude as such problems, unfortunately, can not be dealt with in one go.
No one can have real insight of the complexity when so many failures are getting exposed and we are looking at them post facto.

We may need to assess the larger impact
It is always possible to take ‘problem solving’ as opportunity to create something better that was not there to begin with.
So let us split the problem- break it down. THINK There is always a better way of doing things.
Let us look at some of the variables involved.
This is the demand side

Let us try to find out
Who amongst the above
-have borrowed and paying regularly? -have borrowed and likely to default? -will buy houses at disposal? -can buy and borrow with some equity of their own?

“WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- U.S. home builders sharply reduced the number of new homes starting construction in July and dropped the number of new single-family permits to the lowest level in 26 years, the Commerce Department estimated Tuesday. Housing starts fell 11% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 965,000 in July,”

…a common sense approach - deviating from the normal accounting / valuation norms – calls a look at the collateral values on real time basis – replacement cost basis. Let us start from “Point Zero” as if this is the problem and cause of real problem.

If we mix up with the Wall Street problems this stage we may get distracted. So we start with solutions on this situation.
…knowing real asset values and losses incurred by the lenders can bring us out of box.
…it is one way of looking at the problem
…forget what the books say while visualizing a thought model.

Forget they were built earlier and have problems – just forget.
This is useful as the loss in value of collaterals is a function of demand / supply gap in the first place and secondly it is also in finding credit worthy buyers – which are the real causes for the present scenario. These factors need correction for future solutions.
Why there is a lower credit worthiness?

Unemployment, No savings, already discounted future earnings – all leading to lower equity in houses
This needs to be corrected in the real bailout process. This is a big job by all means -even at cost of US$ 700 billion with no solution for the future.
How many are looking beyond present?
Do not you feel looking at the future problems and solutions are essential?

The U.S. government has taken control of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. It will arrest a failure of those institutions, but how this activity will remain healthy.

People do need houses, but some are unable to pay for them effectively.
What’s the purpose of committing huge resources ahead of time? How much of house building is funded by borrowings? Why a wrong judgment in this information age?
Is it Greed? Is it hurry?

One thing is certain - All wheels of this vehicle are not running at same speed – so where it will lead?
Is this a beauty of free enterprise and free economy?
Do we have initiatives to correct or market alone will do this job?
No still there is government and election coming on. Some action must be taken – urgently – but an effective action – a real correction.

Realizing the best value for immense number of existing housing and business properties is a major part of the solution – to protect the bank assets and synchronizing speed of new constructions of such properties is essential.

The losses the lenders face is because of a mistake - absence of real selling and lending function. Both builders and lenders are responsible for this. This needs to be corrected.
In a market economy each will think of their own interests first, but each one must concede something for the normalcy.

Can, between themselves, these forces will work it out on their own?
No still there is government and people’s representatives are struggling even at week end.

With election coming on, urgent action is essential – but they also know it has to be effective action – a real correction. Pray god they remain uninfluenced by lobbyists.
To visualize the fragments of thought model lets start thinking loudly.

Find credit worthy buyers for foreclosed and new properties.

Leasing some of these properties for good rentals. This may also apply to doubtful mortgages to emerge.
Accelerate the process by making these investments attractive by tax incentives.
Tax payers put up their money in properties and gain out of it too!

Objective set must be like
Leveraged tax concessions for shorter budget deficit.
Private sector execution with close oversight . Motivated long term economic consolidation.

Builder buyback of ‘tinted’ properties, with reasonably priced soft credit has to be seriously considered at this stage.

It is real function of ‘industry’ to care about its high inventory of ‘products’ and not the responsibility of lenders and government – and this is a MUST in free economy. It is not a centrally controlled economy where government is the ultimate solution provider.

Let us not forget it is builders’ erroneous judgement which has snow balled in to this situation.

It is unpopular decision but most sensible under given situation. However, it is better for monitoring and better follow up action for real solutions. The builders are real big stakeholders for times to come.

The US government has enforced a new housing bill to offer tax benefits to first time house Buyers. This can be modified to cover second home buyers and rentals to introduce mutuality of interest and minimizing federal involvement for direct taxpayer involvement in bail out.

Cleaning lender books with added moratorium is a good way.
The cash degeneration of lenders due to bad mortgagees till a cut off date should be replenished by “Bail Out”. May be as equity or quasi equity so as to retain the ‘private’ ownership till the things turn the corner – whatever time it takes – but with conditionality's about cap on executive remuneration and proper accountability, management changes if necessary.
A blanket buy out of bad debts will add to continuation of old ways. Even the congressmen and decision makers are afraid of this – what a confidence in the money managers!
This way money will be bit scarce but at least this way frenzy spenders will realize its real worth. They will try to earn it before they spend and not simply borrow and spend - they will realize that the borrowed money needs to create some values to cover more than the cost of borrowing.

The ‘money managers’ will think down to earth to find profits with limited resources and will learn not to overplay through ‘derivatives’ route.

“Derivatives” are parasites and have killed big and small with one bad judgment. ‘Derivative’ as concept is a downward and vertical way of thinking – going deep in one direction. It focuses on more liquidity when minds are frenzy with profitability greed.

The situation is pregnant enough to inspire Edward De Bono or his disciples to coin a new term for this.

Derivatives are good options, but in highly exceptional conditions but not purposeful in the normal course.
For “Bonus” oriented money managers it proved to be curse.

Keeping credit lines open is essential for healthy normalcy in the economy – real purchasing power, real demand and bit of higher savings to fund the economy for growth.
But for this further and real growth is difficult.

Whatever we have seen so far is post facto way to correct the situation.

Real solutions lay in adding fundamental strengths in economy - controlling trade deficits – optimizing imports – everything, clothing, toys, electronics, cars, hardware and what not..

USA has forgotten the joy of market friendly productivity for the local market. Spirit of “be American buy American” is twisted for sectional benefit and not for economy and certainly not for the producers and workers in America. This brings in American competitiveness in the pictures.

Somebody must start conceptualizing this aspect – globalization, national advantages, outsourcing and hyper sensitivity within the economy.

Americans are known to innovate; others exploit knowhow to compete with Americans.
It may be quality systems, Six Sigma, productivity and competitive advantage and what not.

Looking at future these still seem to be valid solutions – globalization or no globalization. If one removes something from the system, it needs to be replaced with something to keep people gainfully occupied.

What we see happening here now?
Other countries can produce so many things successfully; why not Americans?
I know they are not resigned from an ‘honest labour’ and sense of pride.

Yet why they want to enjoy a produce of other countries where men, women and children work in work in ‘inhuman’ conditions.
Where are the people who fight for the human rights of ‘terrorists’?

Do Americans need a renewed commitment to help their country remain stronger?
People need to ask these and such questions to themselves.

Creating more jobs and a competitive advantage is THE real long term solution.

Some areas which are left unattended and undecided are - Energy, offshore / onshore petroleum, refining, steel, public works, infrastructure, energy efficient communities with network of public transport, affordable housing designs.

Tax encouragement for savings and empowering more demand is like riding on two horses running in opposite directions – but an evolving equilibrium is needed badly.

Remember they did it differently in Great Depression. That time government invented the work to circulate money in the system – THROUGH PEOPLE and not by bailing out institutions.

The PEOPLE know what they need and for what they are willing divert their own money and not the sophisticated, aggressive marketing function. Marketing is not a bad thing, but look what they created - a superfluous thing – a bubble – an unfounded confidence to buy a dream with weaker financial fundamentals.

A Good thought will always overcome the adversities.

The Bulls - A Mind Set - Part 2

I was uneasy about the way the realities were evolving. I know mostly governments guard the ways the bitter realities come out to avaoid shocks and fall outs. But this ,I felt, needed an exception. The financial meltdown is going to affect practically everybody - now, today, tomorrow, day after tomorrow. Such catastrophic events highlight a fact that even in collective undertakings we have not yet perfected the self correction mechanisms. It can be understood if one single person makes a mistake and unable to correct himself; but in businesses where cream of gretest Universities is absorbed, when they enjoy the greatest life and financial security one would not have dared to dream - forget their real role as a team members - they fail to keep sanity on rails, respect the trust people have put on their abilities. It has been happenning - but when it happens we fail to respect a lable of ' intelligent animal'.

One can understand a mountainier taking a risk beyond life, but a business executive who is handling 'trust', not money, needs to think hundreds of times. People have no alternatives, they have to survive as it is demanded, they go on accepting these experiences as part of life. It does not matter what people call it - pesimist, run of the mill fellow - it does not matter and it should not matter.

I have been constrained by numerical ways to express myself. I needed some soul to put it in words and I will always remain happy that Anny responded positively and did a finest job.

The slideshows seems to be superinfluenced by web linked, pictorial ways and associated subjects. To me each slide allows viewer to dwell on the slide's core content for time he or she requires. Next slide is usually linked with last one and a message gets built up. It can very well be a entertainment medium, but it can also be used it for self learning. Anny took it near to that object. I am happy she poured herself in it - I do not know what is her background - for me that is immaterial - she is a best person - product of this time and aspiration to go beyond. I always tell her that ,'I will not wish her best luck', the reason she does things from heart and preparedness she does not need luck to achieve what she wants to achieve. She will always do it what she desires.

What an interesting analogy on the thought process of the human mind .. one has to be very methodical to put this process in such eloquent terms .. the images of car lights on a highway at night taken yourself in just amazing .. Pursuits - Thinking a Nano way

All the posts on this blog are linked with each other.The funny story about this show is that, in last week of August, '08 we went of NY visit for few days. While my son Salil was driving i was trying to get some pictures from the car. I presumed that the back light was enabled in camera, but it was not. After I saw the first feedback, I decided to continue that way thinking the pictures may be useful sometime in future.

After I transferred the pictures to my laptop, I saw a good combination of speed and light in all the night pictures. I felt that the flashes of light as sort of thoughts in human mind and the speed was a earnestness to achieve something. I Copied the pictures on a slideshow, cutting them, removing redundancy. Slept over it for a night and what you see in the show is a result of half of days work.

Nothing gets wasted, the pictures were appreciated and in fact for few moments I wanted to upload the show just with pictures naming it as 'My Mistakes'.
You see I keep on thinking.

Mindfulness Helps to Deal with Adversities
This is my own experience - blessed by mindfulness to resolve real life issue.
As a finance person in medium sized grey iron foundry- struggling for consolidation, I was never known for the compassion and goody goody approach towards the people. My duties were mainly focused in faster liquidity, a tight purse and to fund the growth.
Managing Director came from out of state old unit with knowhow, experts and some business which the old one could not fulfill.

One fellow, expert, could speak only a native language, fearful appearance and rough habits one can have. He helped MD to set up production and training. Foundry was doing nearly 70% of business volume with brought in skills. Naturally he behaved like arrogant savior - but he never had any encounter me.

One morning MD told me - after salary revisions this fellow came to MD's home, hotly argued with him for sidetracking him - used rough language. MD's wife, who took care of the people her husband brought with him till they got settled, was terrified by the crude behavior and asked him out of home at once.

MD added he is all confused and wanted me to handle the situation, as I was virtually outsider. Having uprooted the fellow from his town, MD felt concerned for supervisor's future well being and was willing for any respectable way to get the fellow out of company without bitterness, without obliging him with his demands. Competitors were keen to have the knowhow was another risk and there were day to day problems of imbalanced production, value additions, deliveries and sourcing of inputs and so on.

I went to shop floor and asked him to my office. I offered him a cigarette and coffee. He was bit relaxed for importance given to him. I suggested him to go on leave till we decide about his future or he can come in and sit in my office doing nothing - cutting him off the operations to display we can do without him. He had lent so much of money to fellow workers and naturally needed excuse to be in a factory to collect the debts.

We executives used to take lunch together at noon. One of my colleagues was very happy for a new challenge thrown at me as I used to advocate turning adversities into opportunities in the company, he was eager to test me on my theories.. Moreover he needed this person for adequate intermediates for good production levels.

This was a tight rope walking - if I remove the fellow for good I would be responsible for inadequate intermediates, his continued presence was undesirable.

Next day the fellow came, sat in my office, declined the cigarette, drank cup of tea. Sitting there in my office he was getting restless, knowing me he was afraid of getting out on shop floor. After the lunch break, he asked me if he could talk to me. I said 'yes', he then started telling me all that he did for the factory, how in his community having no money or regular income is looked at, he has two kids, his poverty and so many such things. Knowing he cannot have a plain talk with anybody else, he started opening up and was judging my responses.

Middle age, in unknown land, language barrier, growing family responsibilities and hurt feelings had made him vulnerable. He was loosing his identity and worth as a skilled fellow - his trainees were doing better. I knew it very well - still his intermediates were needed to add at least 15% more value to our products. May be his absence will prolong the thin margins.

Next day he straight way asked me a sum of Rs. 50000/- so that he could resign and go back. It was his way of dictating the terms. I saw through him, his needs, aspirations and pains of going back from a growing business he helped to stabilize. He knew money he will get will never last for more than few months - still very vulnerable.

Mastering my memory and imagination I remembered many people re bouncing in such situations. I also put myself in his shoes. Then came a reflex action - I told him,'I will help you to be in a small industry - business, collect your debts, would you like it?'

He got thrilled and eager. I told him, I will help him to get space on rentals, provide equipments, materials, orders, good rates and weekly payments. He needs just to produce the intermediates, any quantities for supplying to us. He will be boss and control his workers, show his guts and skills to make as much money he can make out of it and earn a place of pride.

First, he could not believe it all, then asked me questions and then sensed a reason and honorable solution. We wrote down it all and signed it.

In any manufacturing company there is a technical and commercial divide, this was a technical solution from a commercial person. That day I shocked my lunch team with the news and proposal - all win solution. All liked it. MD told me that this has saved his face. We executed the plan. In first month itself value added products were 20% above normal, the contributions more than we invested to help the fellow to be a 'businessman' and it was a long lasting and pleasing solution. Indiscipline was removed and self motivated source was added.

Looking back I see it started 'outsourcing culture' in the foundry industry in our city and helped mushrooming subcontracting units.

Many think like this and grow; but do not realize when they stopped thinking creatively. The supervisor succeeded, became happy and entrusted business to his sons.

MD had to leave this organization unceremoniously; he was smart, but not enough to think afresh every day, every moment and in every adversity.

Many people fail like MD in this case, once they feel they have reached somewhere

Finer Analysis- Most unused of human faculties

Many of my friends who used to dislike my abstract writtings, started getting thru it , once it started getting more responses. It happens, when somebody is planning for life or years art of focusing on moments is more demanding. The fun is that you may deal with one single moment for hours together; but the process then goes on becoming sharper and sharper and one just goes on dealing with the 'real time' discipline. The skill lies in expanding your mindfulness and expanding the horizons. Nothing is simple, but to be able to discect and reconstruct is not out of this world. The concept of "nano' just revolves around this approach and its a matter of time that persons like me will not be treated 'out of place' or 'unduely ahead of time'

When Human assets are able to offer these faculties, it will be unwise to use them. Moreover, such discipline can be applied to host of matters in our life. My case study has created further reponse, I know people need to relate these abstract thoughts to their lives to make such discipline as part of their lives.

Connecting the Dots

I was just about to think for a suitbale picture for this blog, somehow, as if by a great coincidence I cam across the the following words, by no other than Steve Jobs- when he spoke to Stanford students in a commencement address on 12th June 2005.Steve says..
" I decided to take a calligraphy class to learn how to do this. I learned about serif and san serif typefaces, about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about what makes great typography great. It was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science can't capture, and I found it fascinating.

None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But ten years later, when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, its likely that no personal computer would have them. If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backwards ten years later.

Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life."

The friends who discussed this show with me after loading it that I should have just included a sort of case study to make it easiler to relate the ways. Including case study woul have made the show much bulky, driving away people from it feeling some unorthodox thought. Again it is a question how many people do it, as everybody is very much possessive about the way one thinks, believes and acts. This way alone causes lots of mismatches in intensions, actions and consequences. After leaving schools or colleges most common people prefer to learn more from experience ( at greater cost than formal relearning)and they always confused about financial priorities - to spend on reeducation or some other personal choices. More surprising is that the corporations also think like this. Its a vicious circle. Any way ere is one, some others could also be there but the professional ethics comes in a way.

When we were discussing some of the comments by viewers on my slide show ‘create moments’ , my son asked me ‘Baba, don’t you think you are going more abstract in this one, though it makes sense apparently it would have been much effective with some case study.’

So I am discussing a case study. It is from my professional experience – though I have deliberately tried not to mix these two things so far, but in this case I think I owe it to each of the viewers.

One of my old well wisher thought he needed my help for his foundry unit badly and we started working together.

On the first day when I studied his Company’s balance sheets and performance for last couple of months and liquidity position, I understood my friend’s urgency – rather it was much late. It was really bad situation; the Company had lost more than half of its equity during last one and half year, mounted supplier dues compelling cash and carry purchases, resultant poor capacity utilization aggravated the problems and excess bank borrowings due to depletion of securities.

Today I remember, after nearly one and half month we started looking into the situation, when the preceding month’s performance was computed ( I did my own daily exercise for myself, short circuiting the old system), to everybody’s surprise there was notable improvement. It went on like that progressively and within year I was connected with the activity, the foundry was out of the red.

One day in second month the receptionist told me, ‘there is surprise for me’. As receptionists go, I thought it was to help me to start another better day.

After the tea meeting in the morning my friend beckoned me to stay back and over another cup of tea he asked me, ‘ ‘Prakash how you managed all this’
‘Manage what?’
‘Last month 2900 people visited you, in 26 working days.’ ‘And 10 hours a day’ I added. ‘Oh, that thing, you never expressed it to me, but situation demands it. Isn’t it?’
( my friend certainly had resource accounting methods in place and working)
‘Yes, you are right, it was badly required, but take care of your heart.’

There were 400 active suppliers and about 100 or so ex having stopped supplies due to payment problem. So I was meeting mind to mind to about 100+ persons every day and wrangling over only one issue – no not the money problems, but the normalization of supplies.

With whatever people knew about me many had a confidence that I will have some solutions for the situation, and the others caught with it fast.

You need to understand that these suppliers; more than money they survive and grow on faith, money is just a expression and measure of faith. Having committed lakhs of rupees, either they need money to circulate or in exceptional conditions at the least certainty about it. One who was engrossed, like my friend, in operational problems, customers ( who were also victims of erratic production ), quality, schedules, developments, workers ( the salaries were also erratic) and so on. In a medium scale industry rarely one takes the responsibility when nothing was clear to them.

When the past was diagnosed properly to provoke the relevant correction and materials were a major constraint, where in immediate past practically all suppliers were related to the problem, suppliers alone were having a solution – the consistent supply of materials. We needed just to convince them.

The suppliers which insisted on meeting me were taken into confidence and there was brief but frank discussion about the way out – different persons, different thinking and expectations, different language, tones, anguish and intensities; but yes we were having a positive access to their thoughts. Gradually, to display the earnestness, I arranged to keep cheques ready ( so no more arguments over the amounts being paid). Within a week material flow started moving in, activities increased and things started improving.

Idle worker is a most demoralizing factor in the factory. Parkinson’s Law comes into operation victimizing the future due to habituated low productivity and disregard for the quality.

All suppliers were subjected to ABC analysis and sensitivity to operations. Every person coming in to see me was given a confidence that we mean whatever we say but we need their co operation badly. Every meeting was planned, every word was created for desired impact, every rupee was judiciously leveraged, every promise was met, and through it every moment got created for us to provide an opportunity to unshackle the fate bound in ignorance and preoccupation of the people handling the situation.

Such homework, when it gives a positive and encouraging feedback, helps you create a scenario where a blend of commonalities and differences is brought into play. These scenarios then give you a strategies, solutions and success.

We did defer some payments where there was no reciprocation, but there was understanding but no ill will. If one can not help the process for reasons, one does not throw the spanner – it happens when minds are open and clear.

It was a turnaround and considering the magnitude of problem it was faster one. When we talked with the bankers, with this feedback and plans, the situation eased further. When insight adds confidence and one ensures a positive change things go on being productive by themselves creating a virtuous cycle. In our own open mind we found keys to the mind of the other fellows.

This is one case where I had to deal with the situation post facto. All this was done, in the mind, without pencil or paper and without rush of intensities. Though it was not a question of life and death for anybody, our identities as manages of resources and our own fate was at the stake.

I have a belief and lived with it that it is easy and effective to do such exercise before hand and not allow situation to go this bad.

However, every person, like my friend in this case, has his defendable priorities where balanced approach and practicality was the casualty. May be people in their earnestness want see some tangible results just to feel themselves at command. In business, where external services and planning are available, but who will find time, energy and commitment to ensure the desired outcome? Had all these already been therein the first place, the situation would not have been allowed to go beyond limits. If this is the case in business organizations, just imagine who will help individuals in such and similar demanding situations? And we know as individuals we all do face such problems.

Here the classical human approach comes into picture – either people resign to the situation or keep on fighting with their own sense of relevance and priorities accepting such situations and struggles just as a part of life. All the bookish knowledge and expertise is there but what can help disciplining the mind for practicable solutions, except for the mind of the people concerned.

I do not say the situation described above is something unique. So many people and numerous organizations have handled it successfully and come out of it and most of them have redefined their outlook towards business and life.

We need to learn from these successes and make such case studies available for people who – today or tomorrow - are expected to handle major business resources, take decisions and responsible for future of people dependent on it. Managing minds should be educated for identifying the deviations much earlier to prevent a built up which always calls for disproportionate and wasteful costs in the long run.

Organizations score over individuals as it has access to more minds, where the shared concerns and objectives can add real value better than that is added on machines, machining centers or assembly lines.

When one can visualize the vibrations in the situation, moments, substances, their force and directions nothing remains abstract. Every thing evolves in the mind first–and blooms in reality to be better than otherwise can.

This story was in mind for over 45 years. I remember vividly as I heard it on Radio in some morning programm. The Sangli ( Maharashtra ) Radio Station had just became operative. I think every specific day there was a programme for such stories. In my early youth this story was deeply varved in my mind. I think, so far I never allowed myself to understand it in its true sense. I think age teaches to something - this story is one such example. See this, understand this and see how much out of this is relevant to your life. In my case it has certainly made a big differance. You see I am planning for each hour of my day, I have kep minimum of time to look at others where differances will appear prominently.

Today is 7th August, 08 and by end of the day as many as 1285 people have viewed the English show, about 65 people have seen the marathi show and 131 people have seen the Spanish show.

These shows not necessarily reach to the people who need the thoughts, but if we look at the viewers as the representives of the total mass of people, we can understand the interest that these thoughts have created.

The discussions with the people indicate me that blogs in various languages and books can be a good media. I am thinking of a solution which can take these thoughts to the people so they can understand that they alone can do something for redressal of their problems.

Lets see.

I have never met these people, not I know their background and they have responded with their views on the slide shows which deal with need to do things differently.

I was writing for my book ' The Learning Minds - know the self within' . At the same time I was reading a book 'History of Knowledge’. This book deals with development of human civilization and thoughts - including contributions by various known and unknown people. By that time I had covered this particular topic emphasizing the need for adopting subtle approach in knowing the totality and letting go the irrelevant and superfluous subjects wandering and confusing the mind for thoughts and action. The ideas of French thinker Rene Descartes felt very much relevant to the topic I had in mind. This added emphasis to my thoughts in mentally splitting and dealing with each moment for the treatment as discussed by me in this section. I think eventually all will agree that the subjects in the mind, treatment by the human mind is somewhat similar to that of neutrons of an atom - totally unpredictable and properly narrated by the laws of uncertaintity - a quatum theory.

This is the portion of the book – yet it has to undergo through editing, but all the same this is meaningful for those who saw the show, downloaded it, commented on it and voted for it. I owe it to you. You are always welcome to express your views on the same.

Create moments to live a dream
Moments - neither hours,days nor years make the life.
Moments, like drops of water, come together to form one's life stream. Moments can not be selected or rejected by one's likes or dislikes. They can not be filtered for Satva, Raja and Tama. ( These three are the Universal attributes, qualities and ways of thought and life. ) They are given to us by the life force and circumstances, that is why such moments are called a 'Present'. Like a raindrop up from the sky the moments are generated by a complex natural phenomenon.Let us think in terms of matrix. The past moments ( say M0) contain seeds and direction of the future in which the life force was applied while living that moment. Unless the substance and the direction the present moment ( say M1 ) carries, is in agreement with moment of its past, we end up with cross currents – created by admixture of the past and the present. The confusion, if it is not neutralized through proper interaction while living (M1) , gets transferred to the following moment (M2 ) having its own circumstantial constitution and demands.

The only difference is the rain outside and the drops we get is that the moments we receive is that the moments are seamlessly connected to our life and meant alone for us.
Part of preceding moment (M0) carries forward to M1 the obligations (sanchit karma – accumulated obligation for actions), our unfulfilled wishes, desires and dreams – both short and long term. M1 will have its own agenda of performance obligation and preparatory obligation for M2.

Balance oh M1 will be occupied by consequences, both desired or undesired, of the karma performed in M0 and M1 – this is how life substance is impregnated into moments we live and consume.

The moments thus contain nano particles of numerous different substances, different directions, force and a lengthy agenda representing many unfilled or half filled desires and needs. Like a water stream is made up of numerous drops of water coming from various directions, with different purity, impurity, colors and shades, minerals, sediments, taste, smells and temperature – then what will the life stream be with each joining moment has dissimilar, useful, useless, harmful, harmless, forces moving in from different direction, plus some crystal clear and beautiful substance from destiny? Such stream needs purification if one wants life to be better composed. How this life stream can be purified?

A constant function in this purification process is that we must know thoroughly well our substances, their probable impact and agendas – both short term and long term. Ignorance, even a slightest one, about the substances that get into our life, is a reflection about our indifferent approach towards the life.

Then , first thing one has to do is to apply the mental filters to isolate what is superfluous and irrelevant, marginalize them with more of purity and more of senseful substance out of the original substance for the meaningful interaction in M1. It is important here to understand that, by isolation it is not meant that we just destroy those elements, but we are simply trying to marginalize them, we just borrow the time to deal with all those substances in better fashion. Life never gives us liberty to wish something away from our life.

Next thing is, we must be able to organize the life flow through an appropriate functionality of mind whereby the constitution of the moment in the pipeline is also known and marginalized to the extent possible applying a relevance to our life parameter. If we do not like to get shocks and surprises from the past which get transformed in to the present and also in to the, we have to take initiatives about knowing the self. Knowing the subtle self and will to do it together can help practice of discrimination, selection and exclusion like this.We cannot change our past, we cannot change the way people live and interact, we cannot change the circumstances which emerge around us,the only thing we can do is to change our ways. Like the old wisdom says, 'we cannot change the direction of the wind, we cannot change its force, only thing we can do is to adjust our Sails focused on direction and destination'.Instead of remaining a passive onlookers we need to learn art of selecting moments to give them the quality, contents and force that our life desires, much ahead of time before we get the 'Present'. The present is a consequence of past thoughts, acts and deeds. We know well what we intensely desire in life in the long run, so we are close to know what connected present is desirable. The only way we can do it is by choosing direction of our thought process (who else knows it better than our higher self?), diluting our past negativities ( who knows more about them?), and to the extent possible pursuing a choice of desirable circumstances ( who else can do it).

Swami Vivekananda said it long ago – 'We are responsible for what we are; and whatever we wish ourselves to be, we have the power to make ourselves. If what we are now has been the result of our own past actions, it certainly follows that whatever we wish to be in future can be produced by our present actions; so we have to know how to act…' Now we know little of what Swamiji said.
How it can happen?
Seventeenth century French thinker Rene Descartes gave the world something very simple, which Issac Newton also used with some modification, which is a good indicator how one can simplify this process. The substance of what he said ..
First get rid your mind of all preconceptions – whatever you have been holding in mind for long.
Then, translate the problem ( situation) to a mathematical form and use minimum number of self evident propositions to shape the equation.

If you are averse to mathematics do as best as you can, but some how split and rearrange it all.
Then, reduce descriptions to a set of numbers.
Solve the equation that will give certain knowledge which is sought.

Forget the mathematics and remember the steps, what you will do will not be something objective like mathematical problem solving, ( life is never so objective ) but at least it will highlight the sense of proportion and the ways and forces one needs while looking at the life's problems. Such exercise will take one nearer to the situation in fastest fashion which is otherwise not so easy.While it all looks very simple, how, then, one can open, take out something, isolate some thing, put in something, marginalize the negatives and create a desired moment?
Just draw a circle and put contents with your own labels as you see them all, do not forget anything. Then draw another circle and put whatever you like to have from the first drawing and think only about them. Whatever can not be left back, take it up for correction in the new circle and think best what you can do about it. It can be done by being selective about past substances and then performing present obligations wholesomely. At the same time shape the future moments again wholesomely in un compromised manner. Remember you cannot wish away anything – just rearrange, borrow time, give more of your mind to best out of seemingly worst substances. This is not a golden rule but it can help you finding ways to think and deal with the realities and future.

When you split the subjects, actions, intensity like this, one thing is certain that you will never rush the things, You will slow down your mindful process, which has a connectivity potential of millions of connections per second, and dwell comfortably on each part of the process, you get into meaningful doubts and you will ask right questions and surprisingly you will find that your memory bank has right answers for many of them.

With all that we know, we do not have independent time slots for such action diversity. Still you can do it. No, this is not ridiculous – in fact, we have never realized fully the way our mind works. Remember sometimes when you are driving a car – you are driving it effortlessly and also arguing with your wife or boss or a friend on the mobile phone. You are exploiting best out of our biological assets - and their vast and different capabilities skillfully. What is happening is that your conscious mind is doing one thing and subconscious mind is another thing. In case of driving and talking over phone mostly subconscious gets in to be an autopilot and driving a car and the conscious mind is talking over the mobile. You are using your conscious and subconscious parts of mind in tandem. Let us see what the science says about it.

If we can acquire a discipline of involving our subconscious and higher self to work in tandem with our conscious mind, we can live our present wholesomely and truly think of future and create a scenario, simulate it within the subconscious, modify scenario and do all that is necessary to have a desired consistency to shape the future moments to be what we desire. It is being clever than the dreams, to bring dreams come true; which are composed by the subconscious itself.

Thinking in tandem is a most subtle and delicate ability which calls for use of finer mental and spiritual abilities in best possible manner. The is our own Universe, that conspires to see our dreams materialized.

Timeless values named this way as 'mindfulness', to be in the present skillfully and adequately relating the self to past and future. Mindfulness ropes in our intelligence centers and emotions to make the exercise wholesome.

Ripples are a momentary phenomenon on stagnated water, good to look at and philosophize and take small time pleasure, but they never create a lasting imprint anywhere. It requires a strong flow, made up of host of small streams coming together and which dances down from the hills pushing boulders, carrying stones and sand to scratch the depth and carve the width.

The strong flow spreads across the river banks cakes of rich soil to rejuvenate the life, quenches the thirst of millions, and cleanses their souls and minds. Such flow is always full of life – in fact the life, beautiful, deemed sacred, – it helps in making others' lives beautiful. This flow eventually merges with a ocean – with the good that is in it and unwanted that's in it, to come back again from the sky with the purest of spirit.

So, keep on looking, keep on understanding, keep on dealing with each moment to shape and deliver your desires and realize your dreams and destiny.
